When elected to be the District Attorney of Alameda County, I commit to take aggressive steps to restore public trust in our criminal justice system, ensure public safety, end mass incarceration and root out racial, socioeconomic and gender disparities within Alameda County’s criminal justice system.

Restore Public Trust In Our Criminal Justice System

Point No. 1

I commit to

  • complete and publish investigation reports in a timely manner 

  • track and publish annual demographic data about every decision-making point in the prosecution process

  • treat victims, families, witnesses and defendants with compassion and respect throughout the prosecution process

  • fully fund and support a Conviction Integrity Unit to evaluate unfair prosecutions and excessive sentencing practices with a special focus on racially-biased prosecutions and take remedial steps as soon as they are found warranted.

Reduce Gun Violence

Point No. 2

I commit to

  • be a champion and supporter of gun violence reduction strategies proven to reduce shootings, rather than over-relying on ineffective prosecutions

  • provide all victims of gun violence and their families with greater support and trauma-informed assistance

  • be an advocate for better and more prompt investigation and resolution of cases involving violence in our community

  • use the resources of my office to prevent and reduce gun violence in every city and unincorporated area in Alameda County

Implement fair justice measures

Point No. 3

I commit to

  • fully fund and implement fair justice measures, including

  • support and advocacy for neighborhood courts, services to victims, diversion programs, race-neutral bail and sentencing reforms 

  • addressing discrimination and/or bias based on race, sex, gender identity (LGBTQ) and/or immigration status

  • pursuing comprehensive alternatives to incarceration for those who come in contact with the criminal justice system, especially those suffering from mental illness

Stop Over-Criminalizing Youth

Point No. 4

I commit to

  • stop over-criminalizing our youth

  • stop charging and/or incarcerating youths under the age of 18 as adults

  • establish age-appropriate programs to address criminal violations by youths between 18 and 25

End The Death Penalty

POINT NO. 5

I commit to not seek the death penalty, in alignment with the voters of Alameda County who voted twice to abolish the death penalty

Protect Immigrant Communities

POINT NO. 6

I commit to

  • protect immigrant and indigenous communities

  • enforce and follow the mandates and spirit of the sanctuary City resolutions adopted throughout Alameda County  

Hold Police Accountable for Misconduct

Point No. 7

I commit to

  • hold law enforcement officers accountable for unlawful conduct. We will no longer "turn a blind eye" to:

  • unjustifiable homicides

  • human and sex trafficking

  • domestic violence

  • excessive and/or discriminatory use of force

  • sexual assaults

  • theft

  • perjury

  • or any other unlawful acts 

Establish Prosecutorial Accountability

POINT NO. 8

I commit to

  • establish and enforce progressive metrics for evaluating prosecutor's job performance that are not just conviction rates

  • evaluate diversion and positive intervention rates

  • develop systemic tracking of individual prosecutors' outcomes that will be considered for purposes of promotions, demotions or terminations  

  • address public corruption in my office and ensure that bias and/or conflicts of interest are addressed and evaluated in every case, including matters involving police, public and elected officials

Effective Reentry Strategies

POINT NO. 9

I commit to

  • fully fund and implement effective reentry programs for returning citizens

  • assist in removing barriers to employment and education

  • address ineffective and inequitable criminal justice-related fines and fees

  • create institutional support for family reunification, access to housing, job training and opportunities, healthcare and legal services

Invest in Public Health and Social Services

POINT NO. 10

I commit to

  • support greater investment in public health strategies

  • foster economic opportunities and better educational outcomes

  • support social service interventions that reduce harmful behavior without law enforcement involvement
