STATEMENT OF COMMITMENT TO THE RULE OF LAW FOR ALL INCLUDING DONALD TRUMP’S FEDERAL AGENTS
Candidate for Alameda County District Attorney 2026
I have long been clear about one fundamental truth: public safety and constitutional rights go hand in hand — and accountability applies to everyone who exercises power.
Alameda County deserves real justice that does not bend for wealth, status, political connections, or government authority. I will be the District Attorney who puts the people first — holding corporate criminals accountable and ensuring that law enforcement officers at every level, including state and federal, answer to the law when they harm civilians.
Communities cannot be asked to trust a system where enforcement operates without transparency, where evidence is controlled by the very agencies involved, or where oversight is treated as optional. When federal authorities conduct operations in local neighborhoods — including immigration enforcement — the people who live there still deserve the full protection of the law, independent review of serious incidents, and meaningful accountability when something goes wrong.
That is not a political position. It is a constitutional obligation.
California’s leadership has formally affirmed this principle. Governor Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta have made clear that state and local law enforcement retain full authority to investigate crimes committed by federal agents operating within California. Federal authority does not erase state responsibility, and federal officers are not beyond the reach of state law.
I stand with California’s commitment to protect residents against federal overreach, preserve evidence, and ensure lawful investigations — and I am prepared to carry out that responsibility fully and fairly.
Federal agents — including ICE, CBP, FBI, DEA, the National Guard, and any federal personnel operating within Alameda County — may be prosecuted under state law when they commit crimes against our residents. That includes, but is not limited to:
- Assault
- Kidnapping
- Child endangerment
- Reckless driving or vehicle violations causing injury
- Leaving the scene of an accident
- Interference with a peace officer
- Any other criminal conduct under California law
No badge, agency, or federal designation places anyone above accountability.
In December 2025, the California Department of Justice launched an online portal to report illegal activity by ICE. The DOJ makes clear that submitting a report does not replace reporting a crime to local law enforcement. When crimes by federal agents are reported locally, Alameda County must have a District Attorney willing to investigate and prosecute those crimes when evidence supports doing so.
Public trust depends on transparency, independent prosecutorial oversight, and equal enforcement of the law — regardless of which agency is involved. Community-focused prosecution requires that power be subject to scrutiny and that justice be applied consistently.
At a time when increased immigration enforcement practices raise serious civil rights concerns, California is drawing a clear constitutional boundary:
Oversight is not interference — it is accountability.
Justice cannot be selective.
When I am elected District Attorney in June 2026, I will protect our residents from federal overreach and uphold California law without hesitation or favoritism. Any federal agent who violates state law will be subject to investigation and prosecution to the fullest extent permitted by law.
No one is above the law.
The rule of law protects people first.
Power must be accountable.
And justice must apply to everyone.
That is how trust is built.
That is how justice works.
And that is the standard Alameda County deserves.
