ELAINE BROWN ENDORSES PAMELA PRICE FOR ALAMEDA COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY
Civil Rights Icon Backs Price as “Justice Seeker” as
Campaign Highlights Accountability, Public Safety, and Equal Justice.
OAKLAND, CA — In a powerful endorsement rooted in decades of civil rights advocacy and community leadership, Elaine Brown—former Chairwoman of the Black Panther Party and nationally recognized justice advocate—has announced her support for civil rights attorney Pamela Price in her campaign for Alameda County District Attorney.
“I support Pamela Price for Alameda County District Attorney because she is a justice seeker, not a puppet of former D.A.s who have spent the last 60 or more years targeting Blacks for prosecution and refusing to hold police accountable for wrongdoing,” Brown stated.
Brown’s endorsement comes at a critical moment in Alameda County, where issues of public safety, justice reform, and accountability—particularly in cases involving law enforcement—are at the forefront of the 2026 District Attorney race.
A LEGACY OF JUSTICE MEETS A MOMENT OF DECISION
Elaine Brown brings a lifetime of leadership and impact to this endorsement. As former Chair of the Black Panther Party, author, and CEO of Oakland & the World Enterprises, Brown has spent decades advancing justice for the wrongfully convicted, economic empowerment, and community self-determination.
Her leadership includes a 27-year campaign to free Michael Lewis, incarcerated as a child, and the development of the Black Panther Apartments in West Oakland—an innovative model for affordable housing and cooperative economics.
“Elaine Brown’s endorsement is deeply meaningful,” said Pamela Price. “She represents courage, independence, and a lifelong commitment to justice. Her voice underscores what is at stake in this election.”
A CAMPAIGN DEFINED BY ACCOUNTABILITY AND COURAGE
Price’s campaign continues to gain momentum following a series of high-profile actions and public statements demonstrating her leadership on justice, safety, and civil rights:
- Standing Against Racism: Price publicly condemned Congressman Eric Swalwell’s reposting of a racist meme targeting her during Black History Month, calling attention to the role of race and accountability in political leadership.
- Challenging False Narratives: In Pamela Price Defies Recall Lies, she directly addressed misinformation about her tenure and reaffirmed her data-driven, community-based approach to public safety.
- Demanding Equal Justice in Law Enforcement Cases: Price recently spoke out against what she described as a dangerous double standard, as the current appointed District Attorney may drop most charges in the Phong Tran bribery and perjury case—raising concerns about selective accountability and unequal application of the law.
- Community Leadership in Times of Crisis: Following the March 7, 2026 mass shooting in Oakland, Price issued a Statement of Compassion, honoring victims and emphasizing the need to address root causes of violence while supporting survivors and communities impacted by trauma. She reiterated that public safety requires both prevention and accountability—not political expediency.
- Holding ICE Accountable in Alameda County: From the initial announcement in December 2025 of Price’s bid to be re-elected to Governor Newsom and Attorney General Bonta’s call to action for ICE accountability, Price has stood for strong action to protect all residents of Alameda County as recently reinforced in her statement on ICE.
- Public Engagement: Price’s appearance at the Project Rebound debate at Cal State East Bay hosted by Forrest Jones with moderators Enterprise and Accountability Reporter, Alex Hall of KQED and Ravi Kapur, CEO of DIYA TV, highlighted Price’s legal expertise and her commitment to equal justice under the law.
- Community Recognition: Price was recently honored as a Living Legend by Westlake Middle School in Oakland, recognizing her historic role and lifelong service to justice and community advocacy.
THE CHOICE BEFORE ALAMEDA COUNTY
At the heart of this race is a defining question:
Will Alameda County move forward with a justice system rooted in fairness, accountability, and transparency—or return to a system that shields misconduct and perpetuates inequities?
During her tenure, Price implemented reforms that included:
- Expanding victim services and community engagement
- Increasing transparency in prosecution
- Holding law enforcement accountable for misconduct
- Advancing sentencing review efforts to correct inequities
Her campaign asserts that many of these reforms have since been dismantled, while a troubling pattern has emerged of dismissing or weakening cases that would hold law enforcement accountable.
A CALL TO ACTION
Brown’s endorsement reinforces a broader movement calling for independent leadership in the District Attorney’s office.
“This election is about whether justice in Alameda County belongs to the people—or remains influenced by systems that resist accountability,” Price said. “We must ensure that justice is applied equally, fairly, and without fear or favor.”
The election for Alameda County District Attorney will take place on June 2, 2026.
